Europe Blog Continued...

 April 27 2009

I have already escaped Rhodes and am in Munich, Germany as I write this. Lost in a tough match last night to an opponent that has given me trouble in the past. Dudi Sela is a little guy, but packs a big punch. What he lacks in size he makes up and more with his speed and craftiness. Usually the plan against a player like him is to get the ball up and out of his strike zone, but with the courts being extremely slick and fast, that was very hard to do. Instead I tried simply overpowering him, but in the process made to many errors and lost.

As I mentioned previously, current stop is Munich, Germany where the conditions are as opposite as they get. From fast and reasonably warm Greece, to cold, rainy clay of Munich.

I don't want to jinx it, but the weather today was awesome here in Munich. Not a cloud in the sky and about 70 degrees. Had a great day of practice on the "dirt" and really need to kick myself for not playing this tournament in the past. Or more clay court tournaments in general...

Well... I did jinx it. Even though it seemed like it was going to hold up, it sure didn't. Couple rain delays, that turned courts into a sand box, made the match more interesting. Opponent that I played today, I had zero idea about him, until we started warming up. Right away I noticed a major hitch in him forehand, which proved correct during the match. I went to that side on every big point, and it worked. Still he managed to slap some big serves and backhands, thankfully though that wasn't enough.

Next opponent is Phillip Oswalt, tall Austrian who I have seen play before and will be a good match tomorrow.
Maybe if I say that it will rain tomorrow, it might actually be sunny...

Cheers.

This reverse weather prognosis does really work! Weather was great, match was and the score was in my favor.  Served really well and took chances when I got them.

Next in line is Sascha Kloer, who I dont really know much about.
